When a person thinks of Yamila Diaz they immediately think Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model. She was named the cover model for the magazine’s renowned swimsuit magazine in 2002 and 2006. She became the first latin spokesmodel for CoverGirl. Yet, one wonders if she has left many opportunities slip by her over the years.

Yamila Diaz used to be on the cover of sports illustrated
No one can dispute the fact that Yamila Diaz became in great demand following her earning the 2002 cover of Sports Illustrated. Yet, other than the odd television appearance she did not seem to dominate the fashion world in the manner that several other models were able to achieve following the receipt of this prestigious honor.
Tyra Banks used the cover of Sports Illustrated to catapult her to prominence in both the modeling and television hosting world. Heidi Klum is another woman who used the cover of this magazine to move herself into the television world. Several other models such as Kate Upton and Bar Refaeli have used the cover to obtain numerous commercial endorsements throughout the world. Yamila, on the otherhand, seemed to be content with walking in fashion shows and photo shoots but the life of a celebrity does not seem to appeal to her.

Yamila Diaz is now back modelling
Yamila is now a new mother and she is currently doing some modeling again but it is obvious from her interviews that the focus is on being a mother and there is nothing wrong with that decision. However, she is a lesson for young models that when the opportunity is presented that allows you to obtain more publicity you should take advantage of it because if you don’t there is no guarantee that you will have that opportunity the next year. Yamila Diaz is a very successful model but the fact that she is not recognized by only her first name is indicative of the potential commercial success that she missed out on.
