When it was confirmed that we would be getting a new Jurassic Park movie, which is officially titled Jurassic World, there were a lot of sceptical people questioning the need for another instalment in the dinosaur franchise. However, from the way Jurassic World has performed at the box office, it looks like there was a need for the new film, which the fans have been eating up.

Jurassic World has become huge
Jurassic World has become only the fifth film in history to pass the $500m mark at the US box office and, along with the $737.5m it has made overseas, its total of $1.35bn worldwide makes it the highest grossing movie of 2015, taking over from Avengers: Age of Ultron. With that said though, there is still another huge movie set to hit the big screen later in the year.
So, will Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens be able to compete with the numbers Jurassic World have been throwing out? Well, with a December release date, you can pretty much guarantee that the new Star Wars instalment will not be able to compete with the opening weekend numbers Jurassic World gave us, although it could go on to surpass the movies total figures.

Will Star Wars be able to compete?
The highest grossing movie of all time is Avatar, which was released in December and, although it's opening weekend was nowhere near as impressive as Jurassic World, it went on to become a huge global success. With that in mind, we have to believe that Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens will become one of the biggest grossing movies of all time.
