Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes got divorced last summer, but it certainly seems like it's been longer than. Although Cruise has been trying his best avoid the topic since he's gone on the promotional tour for 'Oblivion', it seems as though he can't escape questions about it completely. Part of that is because the divorce took place while Cruise was actually shooting Oblivion in Iceland, so it ended up being a topic of interest for a lot of journalists.
For his part, Cruise maintained a level of professionalism throughout the questions, and always tried his best to answer the questions. When Cruise sat down with German TV network ProSieben [via USA Today], he reportedly admitted that the divorce took him by surprise, saying, "I did not expect that."
He is said to have added, "Life is a challenge. To be 50 and have experiences and think you have everything under control, and then it hits you—that's what life is…Life is tragicomic. You need a certain sense of humor."
Cruise has definitely been through a lot the past couple of years, but it's worth noting that he's never stopped working. There was a report from the set of Oblivion that even after he found out about the divorce, Cruise never took a day off because he knew that if he stopped filming, the hundreds of crew members on set could lose their jobs and a lot of money in the process. 'Oblivion' comes out in theaters on April 19th in the US, and stars Cruise along with Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, and Morgan Freeman.
