Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson admitted his team simply cannot afford to buy back Cristiano Ronaldo. Four years ago, Ronaldo left to join Real Madrid for a world record transfer fee of £80million. He has been heavily linked with a move back to Old Trafford.
Boss Fergie said: “If you were to buy him back, you are talking hundreds of millions.
“That rules everyone out, including Barcelona. I just can’t see it happening.”
But boss Ferguson declared: “Everyone talks about that but I don’t see it. Cristiano has 2 and a half years on his contract and I think Madrid are trying hard to get him a new contract.”
Ronaldo will face United in this week’s Champions League first-leg clash, with Fergie saying they should have got even more money for him.
He added: “We should have asked for £150m. We would have got it, probably.
“He was still young when he left us."
“But it was obvious he was going to be the top player in the world.”
Ronaldo recently stated that the time he spent at Old Trafford was the best time of his career.
“And maybe it was the time I enjoyed my football the most because I was so young." - Said Ronaldo.
