There have been many movies over the years, which have not fared too well at the box office but have gone on to prove very popular with fans in the years following. With comic book movies currently dominating in Hollywood, talk recently turned to the 2001 movie Josie and the Pussycats, which was based on the characters from the Archie Comics.
Actress Rosario Dawson starred in Josie and the Pussycats, along with Tara Reid and Rachael Leigh Cook, but the movie was considered a huge flop at the box office, only managing to gross $14.8m. However, Rosario has now opened up about the projecting, insisting that people did not understand what they were going for and claiming that the film is hugely underrated.
Dawson told The Hollywood Reporter, "That movie is so amazing, and it really didn’t hit its audience then. People didn’t really get it. But if you watch it now, it’s so on the money — from media manipulation to endorsements and boy bands. We shot it in Vancouver, and [co-stars] Tara Reid and Rachael Leigh Cook were the biggest stars on the planet at the moment."
She added, "Tara was getting married to Carson Daly, and it was such a weird little crazy moment in time. I’d gotten a perm for the movie so I could have really curly hair, which grew out horribly because I have really straight hair."
We have to admit that there are some very interesting messages in Josie and the Pussycats, along with a rather catchy soundtrack but is it really underrated or is it as bad as it has been made out to be? Let us know what you think!
