Rita Ora is featured in the February issue of Out Magazine where she discusses her role models, Jay-Z, and performing at the Gay Pride parade.
When talking about her role models, she first talks about Jay-Z and admits that he had a huge role in her career and life, saying, “The first thing Jay said to me was, ‘Hey, kid!’ He raised me a little bit. It’s very much of a family feeling." She also talks about meeting Beyonce, saying, “I was singing ‘Say My Name,’ and I was nervous because it was in front of the queen! She did give me the stamp of approval at the end."
When talking about the opportunity to perform at the Gay Pride parade, she says, “I can’t wait to perform at Gay Pride and do the festivals. The crowds are very supportive, and they make noise and they love having fun! I love the fact that they love that, because that’s what I’m about."
Finally, despite her rapid success, she admits that her family keeps her grounded and that her relationship to them hasn’t changed - “My mum calls me up every once in a while and says, ‘Are you eating? Are you sleeping?’ You know, mum stuff.”
