Academy Award winning actress Penelope Cruz has amazingly become an even more desired commodity as a Hollywood actress with her recent statement that at this stage of her life her acting career takes a backseat to her family and thus while committed to acting she is no longer willing to do four films a year as she did earlier in her career (Olive Press - March 12).
Her view is one that is probably shared by other actresses who are now mothers but the difference is that if they were to make such a public statement it is very likely that filmmakers would start looking for replacement actresses.
In contrast, when Penelope Cruz made this statement it had a 'reverse' effect in that some filmmakers increased their efforts to convince the critically acclaimed actress to make their projects one of the few movies she will work on in a given year.
The Spanish beauty explained in an interview with El Pais that having a family requires her to have a much different schedule from what she had in the past when she used to consistently film four films in a year and was considered one of the workaholic leading lady actresses of the entertainment industry. Now, she has two children and a husband and is not willing to allow anyone else to raise her children and thus has 'scaled back' her film work.
The "Volver" actress may have reduced the number of projects she will work on because of her family but the decision has not reduced her value or demand as an actress but instead made her more valuable with the knowledge that only those projects with the best scripts will be afforded the opportunity to take this talented and gorgeous actress from her family.
Sometimes, being less available can enhance one's value and fit one's personal desires as Penelope Cruz's situation is proving with her putting limits on the number of projects she will work on because of how important family time is for this talented actress.
