The NBC series Hannibal is now well into its first season and we have seen plenty of characters come and go along the way. In the last episode of Hannibal, we saw Molly Shannon appear as the surrogate mother but her character seemed to fall a little flat.
This is no disrespect to Molly herself, or her performance as the character but more to do with the fact that there was no real background to the character. It would have been nice to see Molly in an earlier episode, with the character being built up much more than she was.
The motives behind the character and her methods for taking these disturber boys under her wing all seemed to be a little too forced, with no real development to them. Hopefully, in the coming episodes of Hannibal, we will get to see more character development with the surrogate mother.
In all fairness to Molly Shannon, she did manage to put in a convincing performance in the role but was let down by the writers. With that said, we still love Hannibal and cannot wait to see what happens in the remaining episodes of the season. Hannibal continues on NBC tonight (Thursday, May 30).
