NBA basketball superstar Kobe Bryant recently announced that he has no intention of sitting out the rest of the NBA season and the thought has never entered his mind despite the fact that the Los Angeles Lakers are not in playoff contention and many critics feel that if he does not come back this season the team will have a better chance at receiving a potential NBA lottery choice in the 2014 NBA draft. The fact that Kobe Bryant admitted that he has not even given a thought to not coming back this season is indicative of why he is such a great player.
To be great at a sport, as an actor, businessperson and basically anything in life an individual must hold themselves up to a higher standard than what the average person can possibly expect of them. If Kobe Bryant were to say that he was going to take his time coming back from his injury and that he would not push to make it back by the end of the seaon most people would have no complaints as they would consider him playing it "smart" and safe.
However, Kobe Bryant has never played it "safe" in his career and that is what distinguishes him from so many of his contemporaries and gives onlookers a glimpse of what motivates him and that is to be the greatest player he can be with no excuses.
Those individuals in our society who achieve greatness do not allow themselves excuses to not do something. They detest the use of excuses and they push themselves toward the achievement of a goal with blinders on their eyes. It is his drive, his ambition, that young kids see in Kobe Bryant and makes them want to emulate him and buy his shoes. Kobe Bryant is great not because of fantastic athletic ability but because he is motivated to be great and has always possessed that desire.
