When it was announced that we were going to get a new version of The Joker hitting the big screen, there were many people who felt that it was too soon after that fantastic performance from Heath Ledger and that whoever was given the role would not be able to live up to the task of following in the footsteps of the Oscar winning performance.

However, when it was announced that Oscar winning actor Jared Leto had been cast in the role of The Joker for the Suicide Squad movie, a lot of people began to get optimistic about the performance and very excited for the film. While there is no doubt that Jared is going to make this role his own, he has admitted that he still holds a huge amount of respect for Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger.
Leto was chatting to Entertainment Weekly about the role, when he explained, "You’re kind of walking upon hallowed ground, and it deserves the very best that you can do. It takes over your life and that’s what I needed to do for myself. You don’t know what the Joker is going to do next; you never do. It was intoxicating to have no rules."

We have already seen plenty of pictures of Jared Leto as The Joker, as well as seeing a fair amount of footage of the actor in the role, and we have to admit that we have been very pleased with what we have seen so far and cannot wait to see him on the big screen. Suicide Squad is set to open on August 5 in both the US and the UK.
