When it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is pretty much a given that any film they release is going to prove a financial success, not only domestically but also overseas. While we focus on how well a Marvel movie does over the first few weeks or so, there can often be a delay with the release of the movie in other countries around the world.
That is exactly what has happened with the Marvel movie Ant-Man, which has already proved a success at the box office, before the movie was even released in China, which can often boost the total gross of the film by some margin. There have been plenty of Marvel movies that have proved hugely successful in China and now it looks like Ant-Man is the latest to impress.
It has been reported that Ant-Man has managed to land the third biggest Marvel opening of all-time in China, managing to gross and impressive $12.9m, which has only previously been beaten by Iron Man 3 and Avengers: Age of Ultron. Iron Man 3 then went on to make $120m in China, with Avengers: Age of Ultron grossing $240m, which gives promise to Ant-Man's total worldwide gross.
With Ant-Man needing to make around $90m in China in order to pass the $500m worldwide gross, it looks like the film should hit that target, which makes it easy to see just why Marvel have already given the green light to the sequel Ant-Man and The Wasp. With many people suggesting comic book movies are on the way out, it looks to us that it is the opposite!
