There has been an ongoing racism row in Hollywood for many years now but it has really come to the forefront after the lack of ethnicity at the Oscars this year. There have already been many Hollywood stars coming out to give their views on the Academy Awards this year, while pointing out that it is nothing new for the stars of an ethnic origin to get overlooked.
Now, actress Eva Longoria has spoken out to criticise the fact that Hollywood has been run by white male dictators for many years now, many of whom she says have no idea about ethnicity.
Longoria was among a number of stars giving their views in The New York Times article ‘What It’s Really Like to Work in Hollywood* (*If you’re not a straight white male)’, when she explained, "Some white male casting director was dictating what it meant to be Latino."
She then went on to add, "He decided I needed an accent. He decided I should (have) darker coloured skin. The gatekeepers are not usually people of colour, so they don't understand you should be looking for way more colours of the rainbow within that one ethnicity."
It will definitely be interesting to see just what sort of an impact the whole Hollywood race row has on new movie projects and future awards ceremonies in the coming years. It has been claimed that there are steps being put in place but we guess we will just have to wait and see. Watch this space!
