British beauty Daisy Ridley was thrust into global superstardom, landing the lead role of Rey in Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens and, while this has seen her gain a legion of fans around the world, becoming a huge movie star does also come with its downsides. There are always haters out there who are going to do and say things to try to hurt people for no reason, and Daisy has now experienced this.
Someone posted a picture of Daisy Ridley as Rey, having a dig at the actress for being too skinny, claiming that a curvier woman should have landed the role. However, Daisy has now hit back at this body shamer, giving some great words of advice that any of us could do with listening to.
Ridley said, "Real women' are all shapes and sizes, all ethnicities, all levels of brave. I am a 'real woman' like every other woman in this world. What's weird is most of the time I see such gorgeous messages from people around the world. People who relate to something in Rey they haven't found in a female character before...It is much more hurtful to continue to slate other women than BE a woman, BE a character, BE whoever you want to be."
She added, "I'm a normal girl thrust into extraordinary circumstances, just like Rey. I will not apologise for how I look, what I say and how I live my life cause what's happening inside is much more important anyway and I am striving to be the best version of myself, even if I stumble along the way. Remember that expression, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Kindness isn't going to cure the world of all its awfulness but it's a good place to begin."
Meanwhile, fans of Daisy Ridley will get to see the actress reprising her role as Rey in Star Wars: Episode VIII, which has now begun filming and is set to hit the big screen on December 15, 2017.
