There have been talks for a new Lethal Weapon movie for many years now and, while most people have been hoping to see Mel Gibson and Danny Glover re-teaming for the new Lethal Weapon film, it looks like the plan is to now take a new route. It looks like the new plan is for a Lethal Weapon reboot movie, with two new, and younger actors being cast in the lead roles.
With that said though, it does not look like we will see Mel Gibson's character Riggs, and Danny Glover's character Murtaugh, being recast. The current plot synopsis for the new Lethal Weapon movie follows "the desires of an older cop’s son (presumably Riggs’) and his wishes to join the police force." So it looks like we could still see Mel Gibson and Danny Glover appearing in the film.
Anyway, the latest reports surround the Lethal Weapon reboot is that Chris Hemsworth is in talks to take on the lead role in the film, presumably as Riggs son. Meanwhile, it also looks like director Justin Lin is in talks to come on board to helm the project, although there are still plenty of obstacles to overcome before this project gets into production.
One such issue that many fans of Lethal Weapon have, is the fact that Will Beall is writing the screenplay for the new movie, although that does have a slight saving grace with the fact that original Lethal Weapon writer Shane Black is also having some input on the script. This one still looks a long way off yet and we will keep you posted on any progress.
