When it comes to playing Tarzan on the big screen, you know that you are going to have to be in shape, but it seems that Alexander Skarsgard was not quite ready for the diet he had to go on for his role in The Legend of Tarzan. In preparation for the role, Alexander had to cut out gluten, dairy, sugar and alcohol, while also making sure he ate around 6000 calories, so he was understandably happy when the diet came to an end.
Skarsgard explained, "When we wrapped the movie, I went straight to my father's house in London. My dad loves to cook, so I spent four days on his couch just being fed. It was bone marrow, fried mozzarella, pasta, red wine. Then five months later our producer called me and said, 'So we have this little scene we added at the end of the movie that we need to shoot. It's about a five-second scene, so can you go back on that diet for that scene?' I went back on the diet."
While Alexander Skarsgard was obviously thrilled to get the chance to play such an iconic character on the big screen, he did admit that following that same strict diet for a sequel would be difficult, "If we make another one, it could be 10 years later, so maybe he's out of shape! He's in a hammock the entire movie. He just drinks pina coladas," added the star.
While Alexander Skarsgard will play Tarzan in the movie, Australian actress will take on the role of Jane, while David Yates directed the movie, with The Legend of Tarzan out now in the US, with the film opening in the UK on July 6.
